Ultherapy ®

Ultherapy® is the first treatment that tightens and lifts the skin to create the only FDA-approved, non-surgical brow, neck, décolleté, and/or face lift in under two hours.

Ultherapy® is micro-focused ultrasound energy that that is transmitted through a handheld device to target the layer just below the skin where collagen growth occurs. The other, more superficial layers of the skin are not affected by this ultrasound energy, therefore leaving them unharmed and fully intact. By targeting the deeper layer, the body’s own immune system will stimulate a healing response with new collagen growth, which will improve tightness and the overall skin appearance. The most commonly treated areas are the brow, neck and under the chin.

Directly following the procedure, the area being treated may appear slightly flushed and some mild to severe bruising and/or swelling may occur. The treated area may be sore to touch for about two weeks. Ultimate results will occur during the following two to three months after this treatment, and will continue to improve for up to six months. Most patients only need one treatment; however, some may benefit from more than one treatment (depending on the amount of skin laxity and the patient’s own biological response to this treatment)

Frequently Asked Questions about Ultherapy

Who is a good candidate for Ultherapy?

A good candidate for Ultherapy is a woman or man with skin that has some degree of laxity, to the point of looking, and often feeling, less firm. A person may have a lowered eyebrow or sagging skin on the eyelids or under the chin as the first sign of “maturing skin”. These patients may be good Ultherapy candidates. Typically, those in their thirties and older with mild to moderate skin laxity are good candidates.

There may also be patients who are not ready for or interested in a surgical facelift, who may benefit from Ultherapy. It is a good maintenance tool for those who have had a surgical facelift or those younger patients who are interested in doing preventive maintenance.

What is Ultherapy?

Ultherapy uses focused ultrasound to lift and tighten loose skin over time, without any downtime. It is the only non-invasive treatment approved by the FDA for lifting the skin on the neck, chin, brow and décolleté.

Does it hurt?

While comfort levels vary from patient to patient, most patients find the procedure very tolerable. If and when any discomfort occurs, it happens while the ultrasound energy is being delivered. This sensation is temporary and a positive signal that the collagen-building process has been initiated. Exciting advancements have recently been implemented, including a new and improved treatment approach and update to the procedure’s System, Ultherapy Amplify, which is proven to increase patient comfort of the procedure without impacting efficacy. We take measures to make this experience as pleasant as possible, but find most patients are comfortable with taking ibuprofen prior to the procedure and using a hand held  fan or listening to music.

How long does the treatment take?

Depending upon the area being treated, the procedure can take as little as 15 minutes or as long as 90 minutes.

Are there any side effects?

There may be slight redness for up to an hour or so after the treatment, and a small percentage of patients may have slight swelling, tingling or tenderness to touch, but these are mild and temporary in nature.
